MIRROR BALLS
Since being widely used during the 1920s the mirrorball has long been a symbol of enjoyment and partying. I often wonder who partied underneath the older ones that I use. I sew and collage together a mixture of materials whilst working on these pieces. I reclaim whatever I feel works well into the ball, anything from 1950s Sanderson print, embroidery samples, Victorian beadwork, Edwardian lace, 80s dress fabric, 70s sequins, paintings and reused diary extracts are amongst the materials used. Each is a one off piece. The balls are owned by so many different characters including the hugely talented Bertrand Guyon (Givenchy, Schiaparelli, Dior) and Kylie Minogue (that fabulous Australian lady).
